Sheer Mesh Bodysuit with Floral Lace and Halter Neck

This black bodysuit is built from a single layer of fine stretch mesh, broken up by floral lace panels that run down the centre front. The neckline drops to the waist, where a satin band roughly 4 cm wide separates the upper body from a high-cut brief. There is no lining anywhere in the garment.

The mesh stretches in both directions, so the piece follows the body without compressing it. Lace placement is deliberate: the floral motifs cluster across the bust and along the stomach line, leaving the side panels open mesh. Each lace panel is stitched onto the mesh rather than glued, which means it survives washing but leaves a raised edge you can feel through the fabric.

Two concrete ways to wear it. Under a black blazer with straight-leg trousers, only the lace at the bust reads as a top, and the deep neckline stays framed by the lapels. With a high-waisted denim or leather skirt, the satin waistband sits just under the skirt line and the mesh becomes a semi-sheer torso layer instead of an undergarment. Worn on its own, it works as sleepwear with a satin robe. What it does not work with is anything low-waisted, because the brief sits high and the cut becomes visible.

Sizing and Fit

Two size blocks are produced: S/M and L/XL. S/M corresponds to roughly a US 4-6, L/XL to roughly a US 8-10. The mesh accommodates a range within each block, but the torso length is fixed, so anyone above 172 cm will feel the halter strap pull tight across the shoulders. Sizing up solves this, at the cost of a looser bust fit. There is no bra structure of any kind.

Fabric and Care

The mesh is a polyamide and elastane blend; the lace appliques are polyester. Fine mesh catches on hooks and zips in a machine drum, so hand washing or a mesh laundry bag is the safer route. Keep the water under 30 degrees and skip fabric softener, which coats the elastane and reduces recovery over time. Press the water out in a towel instead of wringing, then dry flat away from direct sun. A tumble dryer will permanently slacken the elastane, and an iron will glaze the satin waistband.

Black dye can transfer slightly during the first two washes, so keep the piece away from light-coloured fabrics until then. Handled this way the mesh keeps its recovery and the lace edges stay flat.
